Host Linda Marshall invites her guest, Maryann Kerr to discuss how self-management impacts bullying in the workplace on Episode 2, Season 5 of Business Wellness in Hamilton

Business Wellness in Hamilton | Episode 2, Season 5

Workplace bullying is an issue that affects both men and women. Recent research from Statistics Canada shows just how common and challenging workplace bullying has become inside Canadian workplaces. StatsCan's General Social Survey disclosed that 19% of women and 13% of men reported being bullied in the workplace. Verbal abuse was the most common form of harassment. These are statistics of those who reported abuse, and many individuals do not report workplace bullying.

A CBC news story, 40% of Canadians bullied at work, expert says, quotes an assistant professor of management at the University of Windsor's Odette School of Business, Jacqueline Power, who has spent years researching bullies in the workplace. "She says 40 percent of Canadians have experienced one or more acts of workplace bullying at least once a week for the last six months."

Without question, workplaces should be safe for everyone. The negative impact of bullying behaviour lingers long after the workday ends. Bullying victims experience countless effects, including anger, fear, shame, physical and psychological health problems involving stress, anxiety, and panic attacks, to name a few. More work and advocacy are needed in developing bully-free workplaces. There is a chapter on self-management in my book, The Power of Emotion.

Join my special guest Maryann Kerr, Author and Founder of the Medalist Group, and me to discuss how self-management impacts bullying in the workplace on Friday, February 18 at 6:30 pm.
