Host Linda Marshall invites her guest to discuss the power of empathy on Episode 11, Season 4 of Business Wellness in Hamilton

Empathy plays a significant role in your interactions with others. When you demonstrate empathy, you recognize and understand others' feelings and opinions by figuratively walking in their shoes or seeing things through their eyes. We develop empathy by discerning the feelings of others, understanding their emotions, and utilizing that understanding to relate to them more effectively. The emphasis must be on "emotion," making connections with how others are feeling.

Some of us are born with keen empathetic skills that we practise regularly, but for others, underlying empathy skills are not innate. Adults can increase their empathy to develop constructive relationships with others.

Join my special guest, Richard Anderson, Executive Director, Smart Serve Ontario, and me to discuss the power of empathy for the premiere show on Friday, November 27, at 8:00 pm.

GUEST: Richard Anderson

Executive Director, Smart Serve Ontario

Richard Anderson has extensive experience working in the nonprofit industry for most of his career. He has 25 years of practice at Sheridan College and Mohawk College, where he managed Student Associations with large budgets and staff. Richard was the licensee for the campus pubs and oversaw the bar and restaurant operations as well as board governance.

Richard began with Smart Serve Ontario in July of 2017 as the Executive Director and has since been active learning the industry and raising the Smart Serve profile in Ontario. His mandate is to support the industry in their endeavours to ensure responsible alcohol service aligns with public safety for the good of our communities. His organization continues to provide a responsible alcohol consumption message to the broader public, including university and college students.
